Founder Story

Hi, I’m Dr. Malavi Sivakanesan, the founder of Linguoland. As a mother of two young boys—a two-year-old and an eight-month-old—I know firsthand how challenging it can be to teach children a new language while juggling the demands of daily life. Raising my kids in the UK, I’ve struggled to pass on my mother tongue, Tamil, while also introducing Norwegian, a language I grew up speaking fluently in Norway. To add to the challenge, my toddler spends most of his day at nursery where English is his primary language. With late speech running in my family—my brother didn’t start speaking until he was four years old—I wanted to give my child the best chance to develop his language skills early. I began searching for creative toys and tools to help my toddler learn Tamil and other languages, but everything I found was either too expensive or impractical. The few options available often cluttered our playroom without delivering meaningful progress. That’s when the idea for Linguoland was born. I envisioned a sustainable model that wouldn’t waste money or space but would instead grow with a child’s language development needs. Together with my co-founder and sister, Sharmali Sivakanesan—or as my kids lovingly call her, “Best Chithi” (best aunt)—we created Linguoland to help families like ours.

Meet Babloo

Babloo, our playful monkey mascot, is at the heart of Linguoland. Babloo wasn’t always the confident language explorer he is today. He started out just like any child—curious but shy about trying new words. Growing up in a jungle full of diverse animals, Babloo often felt left out because he couldn’t understand everyone. But one day, with the help of his friends, he discovered the joy of learning new languages through play, songs, and stories. Each new word he learned opened a door to new friendships and adventures. Now, Babloo is here to guide your children on their language-learning journey, proving that with a little curiosity and the right tools, anyone can learn to speak the language of connection.

A Personal Connection

Our mission goes beyond creating toys. We’re building a community where families can share in the joys and challenges of raising multilingual children. Language is more than just words; it’s a connection to culture, family, and identity. We want to make it easier for you to give your child these lifelong gifts, without the stress or steep costs.

Why Multilingualism Matters

Research shows that learning multiple languages at a young age has profound benefits. Bilingual children often excel in problem-solving, creativity, and multitasking. They’re better at adapting to new environments and show greater empathy and cultural understanding. For families like mine, introducing a second or third language isn’t just about academics; it’s about connecting with grandparents, understanding cultural stories, and fostering a sense of belonging in an increasingly global world.
